The vintage in 2023 is considered exceptional, receiving a lot of praise in print media and the internet. It has very concentrated dark fruit tones with floral notes that makes it hard to take your nose from the glass. The flavors of dark cherry, black raspberry with cola and forest floor have the classic flavors so desired in a Russian River (Rochioli) pinot. It has a full and rich mouth feel that never drops off, from the tip of the tongue to the back of the throat, with flavors that linger forever. I am happy to say that the Rochioli Vineyards have produced another great wine in 2023.
I have held my production down to 225 cases for several years, compared to the 300 cases I used to produce. This allows me to use only the best blocks available to me and I think you will notice the difference. I realize you have many options and I appreciate that you consider Castalia a quality buy. The more people that order the wine from me, the longer I can hold my price. So please tell a friend.
I have always said that you don't have to finish the bottle because the wine tastes better the next day. I have tried the wine after 3 days and it was still drinking well. With a PH under 3.5, it won't hit its prime for 7 to 8 years. I have been drinking them after 15 years and they are still delightful, so the longer you wait to drink it the better it will be.
I am proud of the consistent quality of each vintage largely due to the fact that the Rochioli vineyards are the source for each one. Only three wineries besides Rochioli are allowed to put Rochioli Vineyards on the label and I am extremely happy to say I am one of them.
