Dear Customers;
With rampant inflation there is a lot of pressure to raise prices, which I have not done. I want you to know that I have not raised the price since 2015. I have reduced my production of the 2020 pinot to 200 cases, down from 250 cases in 2018: The smallest production since 1997. This allows me to use only the best blocks available to me and I think you will notice a difference. I realize you have many options and I appreciate that you consider Castalia a quality buy. The more people that order the wine from me, the longer I can hold my pricing. So please tell a friend.
The 2020 Vintage had a great growing season with a perfect balance between hot and cool weather that allowed the grapes to ripen with an optimal balance of acid and sugar. Most of the grapes were harvested before an early thunderstorm that started fires all over California, including Sonoma County, made fermentation difficult. I am happy to say that the Rochioli Vineyards were not affected by the smoke taint the press talked so much about. The 2020 vintage has bright fruit tones of red cherry and cola, and having tasted it extensively, I can assure you there is no hint of smoke.
As with all my pinots, the 2020 has a long lingering finish that leaves you craving more. I have always said that you don’t have to finish the bottle because the wine tastes better the next day. I have tried the wine after 3 days and it was still drinking well. With a PH of 3.5 it should age for at least ten years and won’t hit its prime for 4 to 7 years, so the longer you wait to drink it the better it will be.
I am proud of the consistent quality of each vintage largely due to the fact that the Rochioli vineyards are the source for each one. Only three wineries besides Rochioli are allowed to put Rochioli vineyards on the label and I am extremely happy to say I am one of them.
*** With shipping charges skyrocketing I am unable to continue free shipping. I will offer a $40 dollar a case discount if you pay by check.
